The Little Black Jacket for president!

Official disclaimer: In today’s raw-hemmed edit of how to style a little black jacket; I can’t promise any pics of me sprawled across the parquet in a tweed 2-piece, nor contorting myself into a Chanel carrier bag for the purposes of the ‘gram. Wish wish wish.

Consider me planted into a Chanel carrier bag officially on the bucket list btw.

But Chanel dreams aside, if you haven’t been held hostage by a blazer and blue jean combo you haven’t lived.

It’s a rite of passage after all.

I’ve known this for sometime. Fully reinforced during a late-night stalk surf of Facebook – how I keep abreast of angry ex’s, old bosses, frenemies and the one person I met on the train. In 100% of cases, each person profiled within an inch of full-time employment had at some point been denim’d and suited up. The only exception – cabin-crew. Maybe ‘cos the Abercrombie and Fitch life chose them.

My point is this. We all have a tailored somethin’ interview-chic in our closet. One destined for a brief flirt with danger denim, then likely doing the dirty amongst a pile of scuffed shoes. AKA my floordrobe.

Turns out this one made it out through the skin of it’s lining. She’s circa ’09 and needs a good steam. Still. She fit’s like a glove and wing-man’s my mom jeans a treat.

Everything I’m wearing other than the blazer is super casual. I love that contrast. I’m going through a Sister Act II phase at the minute, plenty of 90’s kid references on my ‘gram and wherever possible me decked in oversized denim and does-what-it-says-on-the-tin peekaboo lace.

Noteworthy: this blazer is a single-button fastening – it draws the eye to my narrowest point – definitely the most flattering of all the blazers I’ve so far resurrected.

Also, I’m smitten with her striped silk lining – hence the cuff roll – so in Vogue right now.

Most importantly, I’m relieved she still fits. I feel like no matter what, the fit is everything. Seams should sit symmetrically, shoulders snuggly, buttons not tugging. Stick to these rules and I guarantee you’ll look the business.

Blue jean baby…. You’re back in the game.
