I’m back in Paris.
With a plan to hoover the last remaining carbs before the inevitable January fear-of-leaving-the-house and self-loathing.
And also to try something new:
Things like: Go to the Louvre instead of just having my picture taken outside it. Eating the ice-cream before it’s melted. Taking the hour journey to Versailles instead of just talking about it… so many sodding times I’ve said I’ll do Versailles and blamed ‘not enough time’ as an excuse not to go. This is the same person that queued outside Gucci on Avenue Montaigne yesterday for a pair of trainers I could have ordered online a week ago.
Anyway
Yesterday wasn’t bad at all. We spent most of it just strolling… you know, with no actual plan which as it turns out is way more fun. I suck at sticking to a plan anyway, I get distracted by my instagram.
We started in ‘our adopted hood’
We’ve totally lucked out on the hotel, it’s by the Louvre but on the opposite side of the river in St Germain. A lovely boutique place called Le Saint – stalk my ‘Paris’ highlights on insta – it’s a gem of a find and we somehow scored a balcony so I’m literally in my cliche element.
Up to nothing… literally.
I’ve had messages on social asking me what I get up to, where I hang out… in Paris. I’m a novice to be honest, but here’s my thoughts:
For years I’ve said stick to Le Marais – it’s cool, full of creative types, the coffee’s cheap-errr, La Favourite does my fave pizza, and there’s a Hoxton (legit my sanctuary in London). But in terms of where to base myself I’ve changed my mind. St. Germain is a game changer. She’s taken me in like one of the family. I feel at home here even with the language barrier. It’s on par with Le Marais in every which way where foodie places are concerned but where it ups the anti is in the detail. St. Germain feels way quieter and more refined – Le Marais’ older, wiser sister maybe.
I’ll do more research and share my fave places after the trip. So far Café de Flore & Les Deux Magots have provided plenty of inspo for the gram and i’m v excited to eat at Ralphs!!!
Send me more recommendations if you have em… I’m more a burger and frites than chateaubriand s’il vous plaît.
Merci
