This is me, breathing new life into an old skirt.
Though when I say old, I’m fashion terming – for a frilly number with a 3 season pedigree and snag story to match. Snag talk aside, multiple frilling has pulled me out of many a hot and sticky spot. So this one can stay, for this season and no doubt the next.
Sadly for the frill seekers, this is where my skirt tale ends. And where loose knittedly, we shift to more serious gear and talk sweater weather. Cos yep, the summer sweater is where I’ll be exercising witticisms for the foreseeable. Crank up the air-con, imagine a world sans heatwave and steady yourself for me waxing lyrical about winds and stuff!

The loose knit – loosely speaking.
It’s the investment purchase of the season. By investment, I plead with you – spend per wear logic – to dust down the Amex and speculate. It’s time to liquidate a little extra and upgrade to destination cashmere/silk mix/something luxe for fool proof sweatering. The purchase of said luxurious knit is well, a non-negotiable for any self respecting Londonista. I’m not just a girl, standing in front of wind tunnel, asking it not to freeze me.
A versatile knit will have your back and arms covered when the sun decides to leave, the day turns to eve, shopping turns to… dinner with Leo/Robert/Steve? Any trendy girls tackling street-style sans sun should really be carrying a cocktail o’clock cover-all. And for cover-all, that’s your cute sweater. Capisce?.
Forget all the bumf you’ve read about chunky, shrink-in-the-wash wool knits. That’s winter fare. In summer, you want crinkle-free cashmere, something lightweight and luxurious. Silky sweater couture that you can shove in your Trapeze. Oversized is ideal – so I borrowed his – and for cool girls, saviour the moment and show some shoulder.
.
Don’t forget accessorises – like I did! Go heavy metal on the hardwear and buy into new season favourite – the cuff. Paired together with summer skirts/shirts, you’ll be so fash-forward it flirts!!!
For practical reasons, swiggers of libation grenades (bulmers/malbecs/orangeades) are best off in darks. Why mark? Sancerre sippers can exploit new season neutrals. Think grey and beige, panetone-pastels okay.
.
And as I always sweaterise: the early bird catches the cashmere worm, and leave your tight tops and clings to the models and tings….
Slinky sweater? Never luxed better.
