Though I should really launch into a gushing account of how fab the crew were, how much I enjoyed styling 5 different looks for this shoot and how painful it was not to hurl my face into a Peggy Porschen cupcake afterwards WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT CULOTTES.

Granted, I’m so late to this party it’s shameful.

Even in the archives of the loft last years closet, I can only recall a pleated swishy pant that’s as close as I ever got. So when 5’4″ me got ushered into a changing room with a wide legged pair of blue jean culottes and 4 expectant faces expecting miracles – it was touch and go.

Yep, styling stuff on the hoof doesn’t come naturally to me, and with no pinterest to pour through or bestie to back me up, I don’t think I did too darn badly.

What i learned:

Culottes are a vehicle for showing off your new-in statement booties.

For wide-leg culottes, opt for a heel to elongate the leg.

Less structured culottes can be balanced with a tailored blazer for a smarter fresher feel.

And for double denim, avoid the Brittany Spears circa-2001-situ and pair clean washed denims cut in classic styles.

Voila

.

My full feature will be on the Donna Ida homepage over London fashion week PANIC sharing all of my styled looks and gurning expressions PANIC. I reckon these teaser shots have me hopefully you convinced there’s no time like the present to jump on the culotte bandwagon.
