I remember the first moment I began taking how I looked seriously – at girl guides. I was pale and freckly and unfamiliar with a hairbrush but I quickly realised head-to-toe black was my friend. When the official girl guides uniform became mandatory (royal blue culottes and matching sweater) I left.
My point is this. There’s nothing worse to me than wearing an outfit and not feeling comfortable… just to fit in. So if I wear the same all black turtle-neck and leggings combo 4 days on the jog, so long as I feel good it’s ok.
Now that I’m more practical and my closet a little more robust, I stock up on quality all black basics and between me and you, I stock up regularly.
Adding different hardware, switching sunglasses and always shopping regularly introducing new details keeps things fresh. I swear by a killer stiletto and slick of red lippie come night time to turn up the volume. Side note: wearing all black focuses attention on the face and hair. Had I foreseen the impact of the wind tunnel we shot this in I might have popped a comb in my cross-body. I really need to invest in a portable hairbrush… never did get my Survival badge.
