At some point, the veritable feast of Venice view-fies, canal-fies and lest we forget gondola-fies starts to blur into one. I lost count.
I’m adding ‘fies’ to everything – I photobombed as many views of Venice as I could.
First off, arriving on a boat from Marco Polo into Venice is necessary.
But arriving on a walnut-veneered, top-grain leather lined private boat with Italian hunk Mario guiding from the stern is good game for anyone wishing to hustle an upgrade at swanky
5* digs.
(our boat ride was €110 …worth it for the social media porn i thought)
The hustle.
Mr. Luxe’s was on good form: we settled in to deluxe-room-with-a-view-of-Prada-and-very-nice-balcony, and waved ta ta to the twin-bed-shoe-box we’d paid for.
Raiders of the lost bar.
Arriving in Venice on Sunday, and terrified convinced that the bar might close early, we reacted. Reacted in the way a heat wave sends normally rational people ram-rading supermarkets for soleros. I was quick to punch in the 4 digit saw-us-coming-service number, and zealously over order on bottles of Sav Blanc and spicy nuts.
Our bill was €278
In Venice, kicking about in anything higher than a platform plimsoll is only something t***s do.
I found creative ways to get around shoe-stitutional behaviours.
So 6 pairs came to Venice. But only the platform Keds and a Ted & Muffy fairytale fit sandal (their words not mine) made it out of the room. I hovered them over most of Venice, even on the Gondola ride.
(Gondola 30 mins €100)
Breakfast at the Bauers hotel was something of an overture.
We literally stayed until they kicked us out…
(€20 euro’s is €20 euro’s)
Finding places to eat in Venice is a mission.
And a maze too as for the first 2 nights we ate at the same place, just with different doors and menus… no joke.
The third night was my bestie’s birthday supper, so I did what any thoughtful, considerate friend would do and took a recommendation from a stranger on twitter.
Trattoria alla Madonna you gave all us an incredible first time …like a Venice virgin.
(4 bellini’s and I’m anyones)
Top of the world.
The 4 of us took a taxi boat to the Basilica di San Giorgio Maggiore so we could climb to the top of the tower and snapchat.
(€10 euros i’ll never get back… i’m joking!)
You see the thing is, Venice is one of the most romantic, awe-inspiring places I’ve ever spent time. Like legit seriousness, if you haven’t been I urge you to go. Unless you hate water then maybe don’t. We were spoiled with sunshine but I’m convinced if it had rained I’d still have braved a gondola and Nicky and I would still have insisted we lunch alfresco for the ‘gram. I’m smitten and J and I are already lining up another visit to Italy later in the year.
Counting down the days.
