From the moment we pitched up at the Blue Palace Resort, I could tell from the over-enthusiastic bell-boys we were in for a treat.
Legit, the two who escorted me to my suite would’ve taken the weight of my pony tail if I’d asked em.
Blue Palace is utter luxury!
The ‘hotel on a hillside’ has all the feels of a remote paradise,
but the all important benefits of a world-class resort.
Really though, never before have I bounced out of my balcony to a sea breeze, private plunge pool and unobscured views of crystal clear water… also the world heritage site Spinalonga island peeking in the distance.
Me and the girls on this trip – Bonnie, Camila, Reem, Maja and Emma – got to stay in Superior Bungalows, each with our own private infinity pool and the all important view.
fyi: Spinalonga was used as a leper colony until the 1950’s when a cure for the disease was found and people returned back to the mainland. We got to go on a tour, but I’ll get to that in a mo.
Settling into Blue Palace Resort life for our three day spoilathon came easy.
We giggled around the resort in golf buggies, we bounced from beach to bar in cute bikinis we’d scored from Melissa’s pop-up…
DID I MENTION MELISSA ODABASH WAS AT THE RESORT!
Yup Melissa was at the resort!
And we got to relax and spa and sun-bathe and do all the things as a blogger, doesn’t come naturally… tbh I’m usually fiddling with my camera or scrolling insta!
It was Maja’s birthday on the second day.
The Blue Palace organised a vegan cake (i know amazing), a champagne breakfast (seriously!!!) and enough bell-boys to raise my ponytail (had i needed it).
I feel like this is where the hotel really are a cut above – it’s the extras and the attention to detail. It’s the nothing’s too much trouble mentality which I blummin’ well LOVE.
One of the best decisions we made as a group was to visit Spinalonga. I’d started reading the book “THE ISLAND” – a love story set on Spinalonga WHICH IS AMAZING! – and we’d had our appetite whetted the night before when we toured around it on a wine-tasting trip.
So we HAD to go!
Being on such a deserted island amongst all the ramshackle and ruins felt Game of Thrones surreal.
We got there super early in the morning so we really did have the place to ourself.
I’ve only just finished the book (slow reader syndrome) so I won’t spoil the ending… they all die. I’m joking!!!!
And I’m so glad we got to see Spinalonga in the flesh, it feels like a bucket list place to visit so the location of Blue Palace Resort is it’s coup de maitre for sure.
Would I go back? 100%.
I’m so grateful to everyone we met on our trip: in particular the staff at Olea who served us breakfast each morning with so much care and attention (start as you mean to go on is my mantra), the Isola beach club (our preferred rosé sipping spot) and to the bell boys for everything!
Also Melissa who was a dream dinner companion with anecdotes about Elton, David and umpteen other superstars.
And not forgetting the Blue Resort owners, one of whom flew in from Athens to vet us meet us and was the most humble, loveliest lady I’ve ever met.
fyi: we flew out with Aegean Air direct. If you go, have the Blue Palace Resort organise transport to the hotel so you get to experience the luxury of a car with mini-bar snacks, disco lights and WIFI!
I’m so so chuffed to have spent this trip with girls I immediately loved to bits – girls if you’re reading this LET’S SAVE UP AND GO BACK….
