‘attention grabbing, light-reflecting textures, shiny silver finishes’
Nothing beats a quote from the Bible Vogue and some late night fishing on Halston.com to keep me resolutely *on trend.
Perfect date-night feels.
So here are my style hacks on how-to style up the runway hero (bright whites) with this seasons biggest trend (metallics).
Consciously uncoupling from that disco ball…
Keep it simple: So me finding this head-turner of a Halston leather mini-skirt feels quite frankly like a gift from the gods.
Yup, metallic leather mini and I are inseparable. The pockets make her pleasingly practical, she looks great dressed down with a tee or cosy knit, and she amps up my beloved blazer a treat. Whenever I get the chance to style up a piece like this mini-skirt, is really has to shine *excuse the pun.
Make the metallic element the star by keeping the rest of the look simple.
Seek out clean lines and shapes, go minimal with colour and wherever possible avoid pesky prints.
Element of surprise: After dark, I keep unexpected twists hidden under my coat.
The detailing on my Halston georgette top did the business. She’s super simple, uncomplicated from the front, eye-catchingly peek-a-boo from behind… basically she got my back.
Often I look for details to create repetition – I find it the easiest way to draw the eye through the look.
The multi-chain embellished straps teamed with a liquid mercury purse and the epic gun-metal patina of the skirt are what really bring this look together. Plus this top will be so perfect for elevating casual denim.
Winter whites: The most versatile neutral on the planet.
I’m a big fan of layering my neutrals through winter so I expect you’ll see me rotating this top and blazer combo A LOT. I love how whites really temper but don’t detract from the star statement. And now, more than ever, I’m abusing whites as a way to shuffle me from day-to-night, transition me from summer to autumn.
White really is every seasons friend.
Start early and invest in these classics now (tailored suiting, sheer camis, oversized cashmere). They’re guaranteed to carry you from this winter straight through to Summer ’17 but the good ones like this Halston slim-fit tux jacket often sell out fast. Experience non?
Perfect Fit: Wherever the statement or focus of the look, make sure to get the right fit.
The fit on the tux jacket is deliberately nipped at the waist and sleek at the lapel to create the illusion of a smaller frame. I was sold.
This metallic leather mini fits true to size. I love the weightiness of the gun-metal leather and the flush fit of the band across the tummy make this skirt super flattering. As a rule I like more fitted tailored metallics – they’re way more versatile and I like knowing I can make them more casual with a slouchy knit should I need to.
Which brings me to my problem du jour – where do i find the perfect slim-fit, metallic tux suit??
Can you help?
